Introduction of Hakim Farabi Agriculture and Industry Company

Hakim Farabi Agro-Industry Company is one of the companies affiliated with sugarcane and by-product development Company in Khuzestan province, that is addressed 35th km Ahvaz-Abadan road, east of Karun River.

Farabi was established  in 1994 and spread out in 15000 hectares. The main goals of Hakim Farabi Company are (1) the cultivation of sugarcane (in agriculture department) and (2) the production of raw sugar, white (refined) sugar and pharma sugar (in industry department).

Characterizations of sugarcane as magical crop and its varieties

  •  Sugarcane belongs to the tall perennial grass in the genus Saccharum and is an important sugar plant in tropical and subtropical regions.
  •  The stem length of sugarcane ranged from 2 to 6 m.
  •  It originated from Southeast Asia.
  •  The cultivation background of sugarcane has referred to the second millennium BC in Khuzestan plain (land of sugar).
  •  Iranians are considered the first people that to extract sugar from sugarcane.
  •  In addition to the sugar production, sugarcane is used in alcohol industry, animal feed, paper, bread dough, industrial and semi-industrial boards, fertilizers, etc.
  •  In Hakim Farabi Company, different varieties of sugarcane have been cultivated that includes as CP57-614, CP69-1062, CP48-103, IRC99-02, IRC00-12, etc.

Sugar

 

Energy is very important in the world and sugar is one of the cheap and important sources of human energy. The per capita consumption and annual need of sugar are about 30 kg/year and 2.1 million tons, respectively, in Iran. According to the reports, the per capita consumption of sugar in the world is about 24 kg per year. The total annual production of sugar is about 1.2 million tons in Iran.

Introduction of agriculture department

A: commencement of infrastructure operations and preparation of agricultural fields in 1994. The cultivation of sugarcane has been done since 1999. The area of arable fields is 12,000 hectares that divided into 497 plots with an average area 25 hectares for each plot.

B: Irrigation system

B1: Water supply from Karun River by the main pump station with a capacity as much as 36 m3/s.

B2: Water transfer through the main channel with length of 37 km.

B3: Water transfer by sub-channel with length of 13.6 km.

B4: Water transfer by polyethylene and metal tubes with length of 50 km and 4 km, respectively.

B5: In addition to the main pump station, 10 sub-pump stations are used to transfer water from sub-channel to polyethylene tubes.

B6: Method of irrigation of sugarcane is surface irrigation (furrow irrigation) and using PE lay hose (hydroflume tube). Width of the furrow and ridge are 110 and 73 cm, respectively.

C: Drainage system

C1: Underground lateral piping with length of 2600 km.

C2: Installation of underground collectors with length of 140 km.

C3: Excavation of open drainage with length of 100 km.

C4: The drainage system is operated by 34 pumping stations installed in various sections.

 

Agricultural production managements

Agricultural production managements are one of the main sub-divisions of agricultural deputy and responsible of planting and maintaining of sugarcane in throughout growth period. According to the organizational chart of Farabi Co., two agricultural production managers are defined that each of them is responsible for 6000 hectares of agricultural fields.


Applied studies management

This management is responsible for monitoring of the agricultural operation and identifying and eliminating limits factors, as well as providing solutions to increase productivity, meteorology, crop control and plant protection units.


Agricultural engineering management

Agricultural engineering management is responsible of the surveying operations, leveling the farms and road construction, maintenance of irrigation and drainage channels, as well as supporting other agricultural managements.

 

Mechanical equipment managementMechanical equipment management is responsible of maintaining and performing the required repairs of all light and heavy machinery, agricultural machinery, tools and trailers.


Agricultural planning and support management

Agricultural planning and support management is responsible for reviewing, compiling and analyzing all statistics and activities in the agricultural department such as identifying and reviewing volumes and contracting activities and following up on contracts, approving and sending of their financial statements, as well as assessment of the need to fertilizer, herbicides, etc.


Water Supply and Distribution Office

Water supply and distribution section is responsible of taking and transfer of water from the river and distribution it between agricultural irrigation tubes and industrial ponds, as well as regulating the water level in the pump stations, according to the defined standards.


Management of non-sugarcane activities

In order to increase the efficiency of production capacities of Hakim Farabi Co, beside the sugarcane cultivation and sugar production, with supervision of management of non-sugarcane activities, various crops has planted and exploited such as wheat, canola, sesame, sunflower, sugar beet as well as mushroom cultivation and fish farming.
